Our Data Philosophy
Ghost was built with a single core principle: Your data is yours alone. We do not store, process, or ever see your email credentials or message content. Our architecture is fundamentally designed to be "Zero-Data" by hosting everything locally on your own machine.
What Information We Collect
We believe in radical data minimalism:
- No Email Data: We do not collect or store your emails, attachments, or contact lists.
- No Credentials: Your IMAP/SMTP passwords stay encrypted on your local machine.
- Limited Analytics: We may collect anonymous usage statistics (e.g., number of tool calls) to maintain free tier limits, but this is never linked to your identity or email content.
How Your Data is Processed
The extension acts as a secure bridge between your chosen AI (ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.) and your Local Ghost Server:
- The Extension runs in your browser and communicates with the AI UI.
- The Local Server runs on your PC and handles the direct connection to your email provider.
- Communication between the extension and server happens via a secure, local-only WebSocket.
Third-Party AI Providers
When you ask an AI to summarize or write an email, the relevant parts of your emails are sent to that AI provider (e.g., OpenAI, Google). Please refer to the privacy policies of the Large Language Model you are using for details on how they handle session context.
Your Control
You can disconnect your email accounts or stop the local server at any time. Since no data is stored in the cloud, there is no "account" to delete — simply stopping the service and removing the extension erases all local traces.
